DAY'S END | Oil on Canvas

Day's End represents my second painting in the same multi-layered style as Downtown Rain. Layer upon layer of pastel color has been applied to this large 48" x 72" canvas. Looking at the play of color, the painting reminds me of a sunset over the light blue body of water. The shifting colors at the end of the day are a show no artist can really capture, but Day's End gives me, at least, a small measure of that feeling.

I didn't begin the painting with the theme in mind but like many of my paintings, it becomes a dialog between me and the work. When the painting and I had finished collaborating, I looked at it and the title popped into my head. Maybe I was unconsciously working toward an end of the day theme all along, but that is certainly where it ended up.
